Who is Barry Sheene?

Barry Sheene was a professional racer from Britain who won two consecutive world championships. He achieved 500cc titles in 1976 and 1977 and has been a part of MotoGP racing.

He was born in London on September 11, 1950. He started his career in 1968 and won his first races at Brands Hatch. He became British 125cc champion when he was only 20 in 1970. He won five races 500cc Grand Prix in 1976, and in 1977, partnering with Steve Parrish he collected six wins.

Sheene’s father was also a professional competitive rider who retired in 1956 and was an experienced motorcycle mechanic.

Sheene retired in 1984 and started working as a motor-sport commentator and a property developer. He died of cancer in 2003 aging 52.
