FIM (Fédération Internationale de Motocyclisme) manages the both top World Championships known as MotoGP and WSBK (World Superbike Championships). The regulations and legislation are set for both championships by the parent company of FIM known as DORNA.

MotoGP is less restricted regarding rules and regulation and allows more flexibility related to the construction of motorbikes. The bikes used in MotoGP are the prototypes and are not available for sale. Even if someone manages to buy them, they are not allowed on the streets or road. Minimum weight of the bikes should be 158kg, and maximum six hears are permitted. Permitted maximum engine displacement is 1000cc. Teams spend dearly on all these modifications every year.

Superbike Racing, on the other hand, is strict about bike modification. The bikes used in WSBK are the one openly available in the market, and they are considerably slower as compared to MotoGP bikes. Minimum allowed weight is 168kg which is heavier than MotoGP bikes. Three and four cylinders are permitted with 750cc to max 1000cc while with four strokes, two engines with 850cc to 1200cc displacement. Considering all this, WSBK bikes are a lot less expensive than MotoGP.
